the Giant Desert Ray is the only natural predator of the purple wurm using its spiked tail to punch deep into the worms body. It lures the wurm to the surface by slamming its wings into the dirt before flying to a new location to wait for the wurm to arive. After killing a wurm it will feed on it for weeks before luring another wurm to the surface. They usually have a teritory of a few square miles and if you come up on a grave yard of bones and viscera you are likly near a sand ray
