Guided Laser Interface Adverse and Strange Effects Table in Dungeons & Dragons 5e

Guided Laser Interface Adverse and Strange Effects Table

Roll the Dice
1Power Surge: The interface draws too much energy, momentarily burning the user's hand. The user takes 1d4 fire damage.
2Misalignment: The laser's targeting system goes awry. The beam veers off, potentially hitting a random creature or object within 10 feet of the original target.
3Optical Glare: The laser's bright flash temporarily blinds the user. They gain the blinded condition until the end of their next turn.
4Overheat: The GLI becomes hot to touch and unusable. It requires a short or long rest to cool down before it can be used again.
5Feedback Whine: The device emits a high-pitched noise. All creatures within 10 feet of the user must make a Constitution saving throw or be deafened for 1 minute.
6Erratic Luminescence: Instead of highlighting the target, the residual luminescence dances erratically, causing the next attack against the target to have disadvantage.
7Enhanced Targeting: The GLI's advanced algorithms kick in. The advantage from Targeting Assist Protocol applies to the next two attack rolls against the target instead of one.
8Overcharged Beam: The laser's energy output is unexpectedly high. Add an additional 1d6 to the damage dealt to the target.
9Laser Residue: The area around the target becomes illuminated for 1 minute, casting bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for another 10 feet.
10Data Corruption: The interface's targeting database gets corrupted. The user has disadvantage on attack rolls with the GLI until they spend 10 minutes recalibrating it.
