You are used to the cold, lawlessness, and violence. Unable to hold even a meager profession for one reason or another, you now are a mercenary—arguably one of the more hazardous occupations in existence. From your history, you learned to survive in harsh conditions, avoid trouble, and cope with hardship. That said, you never had time to practice significant skills, nor are you starting with much more than the clothes on your back. Assuming you even have any besides rags. Common examples of this background include street rats, vagabonds, and those convicted of serious crimes, who were not executed for one reason or another. Chances are you spent most of your life on one of the outer islands, or you were a urchin in Port Brimsey.
