Iara are enchanting guardians of Amazonian waters.
In South America, in Brazilian lore, there is a being called the Iara that appears as a snake-like Merfolk. The name of this creature translates to Lady of the Lake. She is particularly known to reside in the great Amazon River. The oral tradition that kept the Iara alive paints a picture of her not unlike the European mermaid: a beautiful woman that sits on a rock by the water, combing her hair and singing a seductive song. Luring men to their doom. In other stories, she is harmless and docile. We will let you decide for yourself.
