If an ensemble is attacked, half of the group will attack while the other half flees. If a creature trespasses into their territory, the ensemble's warriors (the same who'd fight) would click their claws at intruders in discordant patterns, a defense mechanism called symphonization. The purpose is to disorient potential predators while others attack, but Acorn Crabs often hold back their attack if the intruder is non-violent.
Acorn Crabs prefer coastal forested regions in temperate to tropical environments. They often hide themselves in burrows, which are usually elevated to protect from flooding. Some people keep them as exotic pets.
