Your lightless character is absolutely incapable to convey any meaningful information about your origin or race. You may select any background and gain the skill proficiencies, tool proficiencies, and languages given to you by that background. However, instead of equipment and feature listed in the background, you gain the equipment and Oblivious Mystery Feature listed below.

Equipment One set of tools you are proficient in, several layers or robes and long-sleeved clothing, a backpack, 5 trinkets, and a pouch with 15 gp.
