What landmarks should someone visit your world? What local delicacies shouldn't they miss? And which dangerous corners should they watch out for?
This month, we challenge you to...
Write an in-world travel guide for your world (or part of it).
Using the Document template, create a travel guide (for a tourist, travelling merchant, bounty hunter, or anyone else!). You can choose to focus on a single city or region in your setting. You might also choose a specific theme (like the Michelin Guide, which focuses on restaurants).
Prizes
If you want the chance to win, enable Competitor mode! If you'd rather participate non-competitively, leave it off.
Note: If you don't have Competitor mode enabled, you will not be considered (or judged) as a competitor. Check the guide to learn how.
All participants (including non-Competitors) will get the Hitchhiker's Guide participation badge! In addition, two Competitors will be chosen as winners by our expert judges: one for the Standard League and one for the Premier League. The Standard League winner will become part of the Premier League in future competitions.
Both winners will get Magic, Maps, and Mischief by David Green and The Shambling Guide To New York City by Mur Lafferty.
How to Enter
Write an in-world travel guide using the Document template and submit it before May 30th.
Travel guides often include information about important landmarks and local culture, like festivals, unmissable (and VERY missable!) cuisine, and basic greetings in the local language. You might share some history, or even a walking tour of the area. You might also choose to include important safety advice and travel tips to avoid tourist traps or being taken advantage of. Perhaps there are local taverns, hotels, or restaurants you'd recommend.
Take a look at real-world travel guides for examples, like the Michelin Guides, the Lonely Planet guides, or even travel influencers! You can tailor your travel guide to a particular group's needs, like vampires, bounty hunters, travelling merchants, itinerant priests, or even a Delicious-in-Dungeon style guide!
In the resources section we've linked our video guide to creating travel guides to help you.
Separate shortlists will be compiled for the Premiere and Standard Leagues by the World Anvil Team. Then, these shortlists will be judged by our expert judges:
Standard League
David Green
Magic, Maps, and Mischief
Premier League
Mur Lafferty
The Shambling Guide To New York City
