Vega University Spectral Classification
he Harvard system is a one-dimensional classification scheme by astronomer Annie Jump Cannon, who re-ordered and simplified the prior alphabetical system by Draper. Stars are grouped according to their spectral characteristics by single letters of the alphabet, optionally with numeric subdivisions. Main-sequence stars vary in surface temperature from approximately 2,000 to 50,000 K, whereas more-evolved stars can have temperatures above 100,000 K. Physically, the classes indicate the temperature of the star's atmosphere and are normally listed from hottest to coldest.
Class | Templerature (K) | Chromaticity | Solar Mass | Solar Radius | Fraction |
---|
O | > 30000 | blue | >16 | 6.6 | 0.00003% |
B | 10000 - 30000 | blue-white | 2.1 -16 | 1.8 - 6.6 | 0.13 |
A | 7500 - 10000 | white | 1.4 - 2.1 | 1.4 - 1.8 | 0.6 |
F | 6000 - 7500 | yellow-white | 1.05 - 1.4 | 1.15 - 1.4 | 1 |
G | 5200 - 6000 | yellow | 0.8 - 1.04 | 0.96 - 1.15 | 7.6 |
K | 3700 - 5200 | light orange | 0.45 - 0.8 | 0.7 - 0.96 | 12.1 |
M | 2400 - 3700 | orange red | 0.08 - 0.45 | < 0.7 | 76.45 |
I love love LOVE this! Not many people bother to elaborate on stellar classification, and even fewer people give credit where it’s due. Annie Jump Cannon is one of my personal heroes and it’s so nice to see her work credited to her.
Annie Jump Cannon will become a character in the setting, the only thing I will be changing on this is the fact that in Tequila Starrise the base in not Sol but Vega so I will be changing the Radii and Luminocity to be a multiplier of Vega. I am already using Vega as the primary for Chromaticity (white)

My friend, I LOVE the theme you're building. This is such a joy to sit and stare at... ...and that ToC in the upper right corner? Brilliant. Love that it follows me down each page. Looking forward to this growing =)
