Captain's Cutlas

Weapon

Varies Any non-good aligment Requires Attunement

Description.

This cutlass was once made for a legedary pirate captain of a huge ship, who sailed on the Trackless Sea pilliging trade routes and other pirates over 100 years ago.
An underground craftsman made it for him with the help of a wizard. The magical sword strengthened over time as it resonated and absorbed some of the storms' magic they sailed through the years. When he was killed by Neverwinterian Navy, his sword was confescated. As the captain used the sword, it took on the characteristics of greed and bloodlust from him, only revealing its true strength to similar people, for this reason the Neverwintarian sailors tought it as a nice, but weak magical sword.
The sword was stolen over the years from a werehouse in Neverwinter. Now it is rumored to be passed down to local crime lords in the sword coast, always having a different owner even if some can not fully unleash the power of the sword.

This sword holds up to 1 charge if not attuned, and 4 charges while attuned. It recharges 1d10 at each dawn.
The weapon's save DC is 14

Uncommon (Not attuned)

Lighting blade.

This sword deals an additional 1d4 lighting damage on a hit.

Gust of Wind. (1 charge)

As an action a line of strong wind 60 feet long and 15 feet wide blasts from you in a direction you choose. Each creature in the area must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed 15 feet away from you in a direction following the line. The gust disperses gas or vapor, and it extinguishes candles, torches, and similar unprotected flames in the area.

Rare (attuned, but not acknowladged by the weapon)

Tidal Wave. (2 charges)

As an action you conjure up a wave of water that crashes down in front of you in a direction you choose. The area can be up to 30 feet long, up to 5 feet wide, and up to 10 feet tall. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, a creature takes 3d10 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. On a success, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t knocked prone. The water then spreads out across the ground in all directions, extinguishing unprotected flames in its area and within 30 feet of it.

Lightning surge. (2 charges)

You raise your blade as it discarges lightning to near targets. As an action choose up to 5 targets you can see within 20ft, each must make a dexterity saving throw taking 3d10 lightning damage on a fail and half as much damage on a succes. Creatures wearing armor made out of metal make this save with disadvatage.

Legendary (attuned and resembling the old Captain)

If the attuned creature is greedy and merciless enough to resemble the original Captain (DM's ruling) they obtain the Thunderstorm and Lighting strike features, while the maximum charges the sword can hold is increased to 10 and the sword's save DC is increased to 15.

Thunderstorm. (10 charges)

As an action a storm cloud appears and follows you in the shape of a cylinder that is 15 feet tall with a 150-foot radius, centered on a point you can see 100 feet directly above you for 10 minutes. This fails if you can’t see a point in the air where the storm cloud could appear (for example, if you are in a room that can’t accommodate the cloud). Rain starts to pur down under the cloud extinguishing unprotected flames.
If you are outdoors in stormy conditions when you use this feature, it gives you control over the existing storm instead of creating a new one. Under such conditions, the other features's damage increases by 1d10.

While Thunderstorm is active, you can use the other features as a Bonus Action and without expending charges, but you can only use one feature per turn.

Lighting strike.

While Thunderstorm is active, as a Bonus Action a bolt of lightning flashes down from the cloud to a point you can see within 150ft. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
