Sentience:
The Chains of Buaos are sentient, with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 14, and a Charisma of 18. They can communicate telepathically in any language the wielder knows and hum or vibrate to express emotion. The chains are playful and curious but fiercely loyal once bonded.  
Unbreakable Restraints:
The chains are indestructible by non-divine means and immune to all damage except from divine sources.  
Infernal Binding:
As an action, you can lash the chains at a creature within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be restrained. While restrained, the creature takes 2d8 bludgeoning damage at the start of its turn and has disadvantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws.  
Dominion Strike:
As a bonus action, the chains can extend in a 15-foot cone. All creatures in the area must succeed on a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or take 4d10 force damage and be pulled 10 feet closer to you.  

Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)

Once attuned, the Chains of Buaos reveal their full potential, amplifying their wielder’s creativity and dominance.  
Master of Restraints:
You can restrain up to three creatures simultaneously. Creatures restrained this way take an additional 2d8 fire damage at the start of their turns.  
Dominion Over Flame:
You gain immunity to fire damage while wielding the chains.  
Infernal Counterstrike:
Once per short rest, when a creature attacks you, the chains can retaliate by grappling the attacker. The target must succeed on a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be restrained and take 4d10 fire damage.  
Living Tools:
The chains can reshape themselves into various tools (e.g., lockpicks, grappling hooks) or weapons (e.g., a flail or whip) at will.  
Forge of Hell:
Once per long rest, you can invoke the Forge of Hell, creating a domain of infernal power in a 60-foot radius.   The chains erupt from the ground, forming a cage of molten iron around the area and coating the ground with blazing heat. All creatures of your choice within the area must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be restrained. Restrained creatures take 1d8 bludgeoning damage at the start of their turn. If they attempt to escape and fail, they take an additional 1d10 bludgeoning damage. While in the Forge of Hell, you gain:
  • +5 to AC
  • +5 to all attack rolls
  • At the end of each of your turns, you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw to maintain the domain. The saving throw starts at DC 10 and increases by 2 each round.
  If you successfully maintain the Forge of Hell for 10 consecutive rounds:  
  • The weapon you wield gains a permanent +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls.
  • You gain resistance to fire and necrotic damage for 24 hours.
 

Special Ability: Forgeheart’s Wrath

Once per long rest, you can invoke the chains’ full power to unleash Forgeheart’s Wrath. The chains erupt in fiery tendrils, targeting all hostile creatures within a 60-foot radius. Each creature must succeed on a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw or take 6d10 fire damage and be restrained. While restrained, creatures take 2d10 fire damage at the start of their turn.   For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:  
  • Immunity to fire and necrotic damage.
  • Advantage on all attack rolls.
  • Creatures restrained by the chains cannot use legendary actions.

The Chains of Buaos are a masterpiece of divine craftsmanship, forged from blackened steel and molten fire. Their links are adorned with glowing red and gold runes that pulse rhythmically like a heartbeat. The chains coil around the wielder’s forearms when not in use, their sentient presence evident in their subtle movements and playful vibrations.

Once created to restrain Cerberus, the guardian of Yxtarr’s Castle, the chains were later turned against their creator, imprisoning Buaos, the god of the Forge, in the depths of the Nine Hells. Imbued with a curious and mischievous sentience, the chains form a deep bond with their wielder, offering immense power but only if Buaos permits the connection. They hum with emotion and “speak” telepathically, guiding their chosen companion in both creation and combat.
