The Deck of Fate and Fortune
Wondrous Item
Legendary Trial of Chance
Draw of Fate:
When you activate the Deck of Fate and Fortune, you draw one card at random from the deck. The card’s effect activates immediately and cannot be undone, even by a Wish spell. Once a card is drawn, it vanishes from the deck. If all 20 cards are drawn, the deck becomes dormant for 1 year.
Replenishment:
The deck regains all its cards during a solar eclipse or at Lucian’s whim.
Destiny’s Gambit:
You can offer to allow another creature to draw a card in your place. However, if they draw a beneficial card, you must succeed on a DC 20 Charisma saving throw or take psychic damage equal to the reward's value (DM’s discretion).
The Cards
The Treasure (Ace of Diamonds): Gain a hoard of wealth worth 100d10 × 100 gold pieces, including rare gems and magical items.
The Void (Ace of Spades): Your soul is trapped in an object on another plane. Your body becomes comatose.
The Star (Ace of Hearts): Increase your primary ability score by 2 (up to a maximum of 24) and gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.
The Ruin (King of Diamonds): All your wealth and possessions are destroyed. Any attempt to recover them fails.
The Eclipse (Jack of Clubs): You are blinded and deafened permanently until a Wish spell is used.
The Companion (Queen of Hearts): Summon a powerful ally who swears eternal loyalty to you. This ally is a celestial, elemental, or fiend (DM’s discretion).
The Betrayal (Queen of Spades): A trusted ally becomes your mortal enemy, seeking your downfall.
The Key (King of Clubs): A portal to a place you desire most opens before you. This portal remains for 24 hours.
The Hunter (King of Spades): A powerful foe begins hunting you relentlessly. The foe is of equal or greater power than yourself.
The Gift (Ace of Spades): Gain the effects of a Wish spell.
The Guardian (Knight of Hearts): You are protected by an invisible, indestructible shield for 7 days, granting +5 to AC and immunity to all damage.
The Puppet (King of Hearts): You become bound to Lucian’s will, compelled to act as his agent for 1 year.
The Chains (Queen of Spades): You are magically imprisoned in a distant plane for 1 year.
The Phoenix (King of Diamonds): If you die within the next year, you are immediately resurrected with full hit points and all conditions removed.
The Fool (Joker): Lose 10,000 XP or a level (if applicable) and draw again.
The Builder (Jack of Clubs): A fortress or castle appears in a location of your choice, fully equipped and staffed.
The Misfortune (Ace of Clubs): All rolls you make are at disadvantage for the next month.
The Seer (Jack of Hearts): You gain the ability to foresee the next 10 minutes, making all rolls during that time with advantage.
The Heir (Queen of Diamonds): You inherit a kingdom or title, granting immense political power and wealth.
The Curse (Jack of Spades): You are cursed, losing all magical abilities and items until a Wish spell is used to remove it.
Special Ability: Dealer’s Hand
Once per long rest, you can invoke Lucian’s Favor to draw three cards instead of one. You may choose one card to keep and return the others to the deck. However, if you keep a good card, you must succeed on a DC 20 Charisma saving throw or suffer 8d10 psychic damage from Lucian’s laughter.
The Deck of Fate and Fortune is an exquisite deck of 20 cards, each a masterpiece of divine artistry. The cards are edged with gold and blood-red foil, each face adorned with vivid imagery that seems to shimmer and shift when observed. The deck feels almost alive, exuding a palpable aura of chaos and destiny. Created by Lucian, the god of Luck, Fate, Gambling, and Chance, this artifact represents the pinnacle of high-stakes gambling.
Each card holds immense power—either blessings that can reshape reality or curses that bring despair. Drawing from the deck is a test of true courage, for the results are absolute and irreversible.
