The Dominion Dice

Wondrous Item

Legendary Life's at Stake

Inevitable Challenge:
When you activate the Dominion Dice, you automatically transport a creature of your choice within 60 feet to Lucian’s Demiplane of Dominion along with yourself. No saving throw is allowed; resistance to teleportation or planar effects does not apply.
Demiplane of Dominion:
Once inside the demiplane, both participants engage in a high-stakes game presided over by Lucian himself. Each participant rolls a d20 every round for 5 rounds. The stakes are as follows:
  • Natural 20: Instantly win the round and gain an immediate boon (see Dominion Boon Table).
  • 15–19:Gain an advantage on the next round’s roll.
  • 10–14: Neutral outcome; no effect.
  • 2–9:Lose the round and suffer a consequence (see Dominion Consequence Table).
  • Natural 1: Instant loss. The participant forfeits their soul to Lucian, becoming a permanent fixture of the demiplane.
The first participant to win 3 rounds is declared the victor and leaves the demiplane with a Dominion Boon and gains Immunity to all damage for 7 rounds. The loser suffers Dominion Punishments, determined by Lucian.
Dominion Boon Table (1d6)
  • 1 - Gain a Wish spell you can cast twice within the next 24 hours.
  • 2 - Transform a chosen enemy into a treasure hoard worth 50d10 × 10 gold pieces.
  • 3 - Gain immunity to all damage for the next 7 days.
  • 4 - Acquire a divine blessing that increases all ability scores by 2 (up to a maximum of 24).
  • 5 - Resurrect all allies within 1 mile, restoring them to full health and vitality.
  • 6 - Create a permanent portal to a location of your choice anywhere in the multiverse.

Dominion Consequence Table (1d6)
  • 1 - Lose all magical items in your possession; they are absorbed by the demiplane.
  • 2 - Take 15d10 necrotic damage, ignoring resistance and immunity and the victim is unable to regain those hit points unless greater restoration or wish is cast on them.
  • 3 - Be cursed with disadvantage on all rolls for 7 days.
  • 4 - Lose 10 years of your lifespan.
  • 5 - Be imprisoned in a randomly chosen hostile plane (e.g., the Abyss).
  • 6 - Your soul is absorbed by Lucian, leaving your body comatose forever.

Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)

When attuned, the Dominion Dice grow even more powerful, giving their wielder unparalleled control over luck and fate.
Master of the Game:
You can reroll any die rolled in the demiplane, but doing so grants the opponent the same opportunity on their next roll.
Loaded Luck:
You can roll a d6 before any roll in the demiplane to add or subtract the result to your d20 roll. However, if the roll is a 1, your next roll in the game automatically fails.
Fatebinder’s Command:
Once per long rest, you can force your opponent to reroll their d20, taking the lower result.

Special Ability: Lucian’s Dominion

Once per long rest, you can invoke the Dominion Dice to create a temporary zone of chance in a 120-foot radius. For 1 minute:   All creatures must roll a d20 at the start of their turn.
  • 20: Gain an extra action and resistance to all damage for the turn.
  • 15–19: Gain advantage on all rolls for the turn.
  • 10–14: No effect.
  • 2–9: Lose their action for the turn.
  • 1: Take 10d10 force damage and fall prone.
When the effect ends, the area is imbued with Lucian’s chaotic energy, altering the environment in strange and unpredictable ways (DM’s discretion).

The Dominion Dice are the ultimate evolution of Lucian’s Dice, infused with the full chaotic power of Lucian, the god of Luck, Fate, Gambling, and Chance. These six-sided dice are perfectly smooth, their surfaces shifting between deep obsidian and radiant gold. Each face gleams with intricate, glowing runes that seem to mock the very concept of certainty. The dice hum with an ominous energy, and even touching them feels like staking everything on a roll of fate.

The Dominion Dice do not merely gamble with outcomes; they command them, drawing all who challenge their wielder into Lucian’s Demiplane of Dominion, a realm where Lucian’s influence is absolute. Victory grants unimaginable rewards, while failure seals a fate worse than death.
