Wondrous Item
Legendary Trial of Slumber’s Burden
Dreambound Slumber
When Somnira’s Shroud is placed over a creature (including yourself), that creature must succeed on a DC 22 Wisdom saving throw or fall into a magical sleep. While under this effect, the creature is unconscious and immune to all forms of damage.
The sleep is permanent until the blanket is removed. Creatures under this slumber cannot be awoken by mundane means, and only a Wish spell, divine intervention, or the physical removal of the shroud can end it.
Creatures affected in this way do not age, do not need food, water, or air, and cannot perceive the passage of time.
Comfort Beyond Measure
When used during a Short Rest, you can place the shroud on a willing creature. That creature gains the benefits of a Long Rest instead, regardless of how much time has passed.
In addition, that creature gains temporary hit points equal to half its maximum hit points and gains advantage on all Wisdom saving throws for the next 24 hours.
Aura of Quiet Night
A 30-foot radius of magical silence extends from the blanket. All sounds are muffled, and creatures within the radius have disadvantage on Perception checks that rely on hearing.
Creatures of your choice within this area gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks to remain undetected.
Respite’s Refuge
You can fold the blanket into a small 3x3 foot dimensional pocket. By entering this pocket, you and up to 4 willing creatures can be transported to a serene, dream-like demi-plane.
- Time moves slower in this place, where 1 minute outside = 1 hour inside.
This refuge is calm, free of threats, and bathed in the peaceful glow of a perpetual twilight. Creatures in this space cannot be affected by outside forces (like divination or summoning), but they can exit at any time by focusing for 1 minute.
Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)
Eternal Respite
The Dreambound Slumber now has no saving throw. Any creature (except the attuned wielder) that the shroud is placed over falls into an irreversible slumber.
Only a Wish spell, divine intervention, or the direct removal of the blanket can end this slumber.
Weaver of Dreams
While touching the shroud, you can enter and manipulate the dreams of any creature affected by the shroud. While in the dream, you become an invincible observer. You can alter the dream, implant thoughts, create fears, or leave cryptic messages.
If a creature fails a DC 22 Insight check within the dream, it will believe anything you present to them as reality.
Whispering Comfort
Creatures within a 30-foot radius of the shroud gain the following benefits while they are resting:
- They are cured of the charmed, frightened, and paralyzed conditions.
- They gain advantage on all saving throws for the next 8 hours.
- They are protected by a Greater Restoration effect, which removes one curse, disease, or debilitating magical effect on them at the end of their rest.
Special Ability: Sleep of the Forgotten
Once per long rest, you can activate Sleep of the Forgotten, channeling the full power of Somnira’s Shroud:
As an action, you send out a wave of magical sleep, affecting all creatures of your choice within a 120-foot radius.
Each creature must make a DC 22 Wisdom saving throw.
- On a failed save, the creature falls into a deep, dreamless sleep for 7 days, during which they are immune to all damage and cannot be affected by spells that require consciousness.
- On a successful save, they fall asleep for 1 minute instead.
The only way to wake these creatures before the 7 days have passed is by casting a Wish spell, divine intervention, or personally removing the shroud from them.
If this effect is used during a full moon, the DC increases to 24, and creatures affected by the effect dream vividly of their worst fears and failures.
Somnira’s Shroud, also known as the Blanket of Eternal Rest, is a mystical blanket crafted from threads of starlight, twilight mist, and the quiet stillness of night. The fabric shimmers in soft gradients of midnight blue, violet, and silver, like a calm night sky just before the dawn. Touching it fills one with an overwhelming sense of peace and drowsiness.
This artifact, blessed by Remina, goddess of Sleep, Comfort, Quiet, Short Rests, and Naps, holds the power to grant solace and respite to those in need. But just as sleep can be a gift, it can also be a curse. In the wrong hands, Somnira's Shroud can send even the strongest of wills into an eternal, dreamless slumber from which only the divine can awaken them.
