Kynvald

Wondrous Item

Legendary Trial of Sanctuary

Fortress Form:
As an action, place Kynvald on the ground and activate it. Over the course of 6 seconds, it grows into a fortress with the following properties:
  • Dimensions: The fortress is 60 feet tall with walls 20 feet thick. It occupies a 100-foot-radius area.
  • Features: It includes living quarters for 20 people, a well-stocked armory, and a storage area for supplies.
  • Defensive Attributes: The fortress walls have 500 hit points per 10-foot section, AC 20, and resistance to all nonmagical damage.
  • Dimensional Pocket: The interior of the fortress exists within its own dimensional space. The entrance is warded against planar travel, teleportation, and scrying.
Stone Recall:
As an action, you can shrink the fortress back into the stone. All creatures and objects inside the fortress are safely stored within its dimensional pocket.
Summoned Sanctuary:
The fortress is warded by Terras’s Blessing, making all allies within its walls immune to being frightened or charmed. Additionally, they regain 2d10 hit points at the start of a long rest spent inside.

Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)

Mountain Form:
When attuned, you can command Kynvald to expand into a mountain, which forms over 1 minute. The mountain has the following properties:
  • Dimensions: The mountain covers a 5-mile radius and stands over 1,000 feet tall.
  • City of Stone: The interior holds a massive city with infrastructure for thousands, including dwellings, workshops, storage areas, and halls of governance.
  • Natural Integration: The mountain is in harmony with the surrounding environment, creating fertile lands and stabilizing the region’s weather.
Master of the Mountain:
While attuned, you gain complete control over the mountain and its features. You can:
  • Summon defensive stone golems (up to 4) to patrol the mountain and protect its inhabitants.
  • Alter the mountain’s interior to suit your needs, rearranging rooms, passages, and chambers.
  • Summon boulders and stone spikes to emerge from the ground as defensive measures, forcing all enemies within a 120-foot radius to make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw or take 8d10 bludgeoning damage and be restrained by the terrain.
Shrinking Command:
As an action, you can shrink the mountain back into the palm-sized stone. The mountain and its city are preserved exactly as they were, existing in a pocket dimension until reactivated.

Special Ability: Earth’s Refuge

Once per long rest, you can invoke Earth’s Refuge, transforming Kynvald into a sanctuary of unmatched safety and power:   As an action, the artifact creates a 30-mile radius zone centered on its location for 24 hours. While active:
  • The area cannot be scryed upon, entered via planar travel, or targeted by teleportation.
  • All hostile creatures take 4d10 bludgeoning damage at the start of their turns if they enter the area or attempt to harm its inhabitants.
  • Allies in the area gain advantage on all saving throws, immunity to being frightened or charmed, and regain 3d10 hit points at the start of their turns.

Kynvald, Seed of Eternity, is a small, unassuming stone, roughly the size of a fist, carved with ancient runes of stability and growth. Despite its modest appearance, this artifact embodies the enduring strength and potential of the earth. When placed on the ground and activated, Kynvald transforms into a small stone fortress with its own dimensional pocket, providing unparalleled protection and refuge.

For those attuned, Kynvald reveals its true potential: it can expand into a mountain, complete with a vast city hidden within its heart. The mountain and its city exist in harmony with the environment, and the wielder can command its form to shrink back into the palm-sized stone at will.

This artifact, created by Terras, god of Stone, Earth, Caves, Mountains, and Metal, symbolizes his gift of enduring strength and the sanctity of sanctuary.
