Starlight reached out a delicate hand with sharp claws, saying, “Meet me, with the ember you have found, tonight, during moonlight point sky, at the Moonstone,”
Dawn agreed, eyes shining, and suddenly, she fell into a dark pit, where echoing voices as dark as shadows murmured in a chorus, “You fell for it… What do you think you’re doing?” And then in a sharp voice, “Dawn Starlight Lupus will never succeed!”
Dawn felt herself curl and writhe in her sheets, screaming in her sleep from the voices of all her betraying friends and a looming evil just on the edge, hovering like an awning over her future. “Nuh… no…” she felt her mouth saying until…
“Dawn! You’re back!” She heard a loud voice yelp in her ear. “Wait, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing Amber…” She rolled over on her side and groaned. She was still groggy from the events of the night before, all the celebrations, and Amber’s tantrum.
She thought back to her dream from earlier. Why were her friends of the past haunting her dreams? And more importantly, what message from Starlight were they hiding. Dawn suddenly blanched, realising she was getting used to calling the Moonstone Spirit by her maiden name! Why would she show disrespect to the spirit? It was actually pretty obvious to her how badly this would show on her sorcery record. But did she actually care? No. She would stick with whatever she thought as long as it lead her to the right path.
She felt confident, believing in herself until she remembered her lapse of judgment just the night before, where she let her immature teenage hormones take over and go wild on Amber in pure rage. She winced as her eyes studied Amber’s scab-ridden frame. Maybe it was best not t trust her instincts for a while yet, unless she was put on the spot for a decision.
She got dressed, and helped Amber put on something that would hide her healing scars, but would look normal and inconspicuous. While they were heading down to the dining hall, she felt herself revert to her original train of thought and ponder it for a while, until her stomach gave a loud rumble and the thoughts dispersed into tiny clouds of what they once were.
“Not now,” She murmured to herself softly and under her breath. “You are hungry right now, eat something.”
She grudgingly supplied the food to her stomach, though she despised the food on her plate that day. This was the fact as after any celebration on the LunarMoon Pack’s dimension, the food there was so good and pleasing that she found it hard to settle for the lousy human meal right after.
She helped herself to a hearty meal of eggs, and strips of bacon with round slices of roast ham. Amber gave her a strange look after she seemed to realise Dawn wasn’t speaking. Amber reached a hand out to her, and Dawn took it, glad someone could understand it, at least on some level.
After a while, everyone started staring, and Dawn pushed Amber’s hand away with heat in her cheeks. “I’m fine,” She muttered in Amber’s ears. “I just had a nasty shock in a nightmare that’s all, but I’m worried it might be a message from some sort of higher power of wolves.
Amber glanced at her in surprise, then hardened her gaze and said, “That’s all that had you worried? Seriously? I thought we were creating a bond here, and when I tried to chip in, this is what you do to me?”
Dawn closed her eyes, not expecting Amber to be this harsh, and doubled away for a few seconds. When she returned, Amber reached out her arm, her eyes softening and gently said, “I guess it was a horrible nightmare, wasn’t it?”
Dawn replied, still sniffling from the shock and sheer force of the night before’s happenings, “Yeah, yeah it really was.”
