What I'm Reading! Issue 261

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 261!

How's WorldEmber been? It's almost over. Jan 3rd is so very close. Well, no matter what your goals were-word count badge, special categories, expand your setting, etc-I hope you nailed them. But, if not, there's still time to squeeze a little more out! From what I understand, after this comes the Reading Challenge! Great challenge really. It's a time to kick back, rest and reflect. Recharge through reading other people's worlds and worldbuilding. Along with that comes the Best of World Anvil! That's a big one. I've had people say around me 'oh, I could never'... but really... why not? You never know. It's a chance to put out your best. You might be surprised!

Summer Camp is almost here! Sort of. How is everyone? Summer Camp homework shaping up? Prep looks like it's coming along nicely. So, have you figured out how you're going to tackle summer camp? That's important, too! Not just maps, or what world, but the 'how'. Will you take it at an even pace? Or savagely attack each prompt, sparing none of them? Somewhere in between works , too! At least for me, pacing for Summer Camp means a lot. For me? I tend to go "Chill". Take my time. Quality over quantity as the saying goes. But it's an important personal choice!

What I'm Reading! Issue 239

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 239!

Whew, where did May go? I turned around and now it's June! Which does mean, Summer Camp! Are you going to give it a try? Camp Feral? Camp Chill? ( I'm Camp Chill myself ). No matter what, it's a fun time, and challenging.

Working out how to use, or twist, a prompt into your setting is a huge challenge. Stretches the imagination, which is good! So this time, I tried to find some worldbuilding to help you set for Summer Camp and maybe.... who knows... go Diamond!

But while I've been wondering what world I'll use for Summer Camp, I've also tried to catch up on my reading. So, without further delay!

This one is really good, and totally caught me, but! Some trigger warnings here for the world: death, horror, and psychological distress!

How are your projects coming along? Writing for the unofficial challenges? Hope so! What's your favorite piece this time you've written? Was it new? Or something you rewrote to revise... or did you have a better idea to expand it? All of that could be true at the same time! (I do that a lot...)

This time, in between my own writing and worldbuilding, I think I've tracked down some really good worldbuilding. Some characters, rituals, and a few darker things! We all need those shadows to balance out the bright side. Just makes for better balance in a setting!

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 236!

How are your projects coming along? Worldbuilding going like you want? I hope so! For me, it has been, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I've been polishing (and polishing again) instead of pushing worldbuilding out live. But hey, it goes like that sometimes, doesn't it? Oh, how about the unofficial challenges? Jumped into any yet? Which one? Or ones?

Just in case, I've got a nice collection of inspiration here. A wide mix from buildings and species to magic and documents. Pretty wide range. But also important in their own way, shaping how cultures might work, language, or other more fundamental worldbuilding pieces of a setting.

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 234!

How's April coming? Projects coming along? I hope great! Did you try out the unofficial Adventure April challenge? I also heard there is an unofficial Map challenge, too! Not too late to give either a try. But! May is around the corner, and that means there's another unofficial challenge on the horizon!

There you go, and this one would be a good one to practice those editing and polishing skills. I know I've a ton of worldbuilding that I look back on and think... This is really an interesting challenge. A tradition focused on renewal, rebirth, or rejuvenation. That covers a lot of territory, doesn't it? Each of those impacts a culture in so many ways. Shapes the language, and in turn the people. One of those deep cornerstones of a culture that most might not think about how important they really are!

How is March treating you? Good? I hope you're making progress on your projects! Oh, tried out any unofficial challenges? Which one? As for me, I'm just moving forward on my own projects, but I'm keeping an eye on any challenges coming in April and on. Besides, Summer Camp is on the horizon!

This time I found myself reading a lot o Natural Law worldbuilding. That's fun stuff. The backbone of settings, how they connect and interact. Could be laws of magic, where superpowers originated from, but it could be something deeper that connects cultures. I think that's why I like reading them, you never know what you'll find!

So, we're getting into March! How are your projects coming along? Getting some good writing or game design nailed down? Hope so! How about Worldbuilding Con? Looking forward to it? I know I am! I'll try and jump in where I can to enjoy the con. Last year was pretty fun.
