0-level (Cantrip) Divination
You extend your senses to perceive the ambient magical energy and detect the presence of active magical effects or a creature’s connection to magic.
- Detect Magic Energy: When you cast this spell, you gain insight into the magical energy surrounding a creature or object within range. You can choose one of the following options:
- If you target a creature, you learn if it has the ability to cast spells, if it has magical items on its person, and the school of magic it is most closely associated with (if any).
- If you target an object, you determine if it is magical and learn the school of magic associated with it.
- Focus Insight: If you concentrate on the same target for more than one turn, you gain additional information:
- On the second turn, you learn the approximate strength of the magical energy (weak, moderate, strong, or overwhelming).
- On the third turn, you learn if the target is actively using or has recently used magic within the last hour.
At Higher Levels: The depth of your insight increases as you gain experience. At 5th level, you can identify magical auras or effects within a 10-foot radius of your target. At 11th level, you gain advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks made to study or understand the target's magical properties. At 17th level, you can pinpoint hidden magical creatures or objects (such as invisible creatures or concealed items) within 5 feet of your target.
