The central plate features a raised Eldalynz relief, measuring 7 inches in diameter, flanked by etchings that extend outward and intertwine across the surface. These engravings are 0.8 millimeters deep, their lines sharp and uniform, terminating in curls that frame the edges of the plate. Traces of gelwed inlay remain within the grooves, now tarnished and worn, forming faint lines that catch the light under scrutiny. The lower torso section tapers inward, following the natural lines of the abdomen, and terminates in a reinforced ridge along the bottom edge designed to deflect upward strikes. The backplate mirrors the front’s segmentation but lacks decorative relief, instead featuring arched reinforcements resembling rib-like spines that radiate outward from a central vertical seam. Each spine measures 0.6 inches in width and is embossed with parallel grooves for structural support. A detachable fauld—composed of three overlapping plates—extends downward from the cuirass, providing protection to the upper thighs. The fauld’s segments are hinged with ginelwa pivots, allowing flexibility while maintaining uniform coverage. Internally, the cuirass is lined with stitched linen padding, quilted in hexagonal cells to distribute pressure evenly and reduce chafing. The padding has darkened with age, showing faint stains and fraying along its seams. The cuirass is fastened with adjustable leather straps along the sides, secured by ginelwa buckles adorned with motifs of light. These straps, reinforced with ginelwa rivets, are aged but remain pliable, exhibiting signs of maintenance and conditioning. The exterior bears visible wear, including surface scoring and dull scratches concentrated around the edges and flanks. Polishing residue clings faintly to the engravings, suggesting routine cleaning or ceremonial preparation despite the marks of use.
