The dark elf took a deep breath of cold aletheian air, it burned his lungs slightly. In a good way, he missed this kind of cold. The center of Ironfalls had been busy even as the sun fell below the horizon. Before turning on the main road up to the keep, the drow said.
"For now, I think the keep is probably the best place for a moment of quiet. We have a few guest rooms that are often empty. I know we left in a hurry, so we might need to get some things set up."
Still getting somewhat used to the cold and the snow Keema responds, " That's good to hear, I've needed a moment of privacy for quite some time now and with all of you around that's difficult to find", Keema pauses before continuing anew, "What did you do to get a keep?".
"We are a rowdy bunch, wanting a moment of peace is understandable," Aniks said turning down the main road for the keep. The drow gestured to the building off in the distance. "We cleared out some bandit lord, called himself a king if I remember. It took a week or two to clear out everything. I still think there is a ghost in the chapel of the keep."
Keema stops in her tracks for but a moment and says " Wait you have a ghost in your keep? why not just get rid of them?".
"Last time I checked." Which had been about three years ago. Still, Aniks continued only stopping in place when he didn't hear a second set of footsteps nearby. "They were harmless enough, someone might have exorcised them. We don't spend as much time in Ironfalls as we should."
Keema continued her walking, caught up with Aniks and said, " Well hopefully they aren't too much of a nuisance within your keep if they still reside", Keema pauses again before speaking anew, " I assume then you all live here when you aren't out they're dealing with these threats?".
"Behind the keep, a few of us have small homes set in the mountain," Aniks said, they had almost made it to the keep entrance. Boots crunched on the snow between the cobblestone streets. "We'll probably be here for a little while. With the teleportation being sorted out on your continent. If you need anything from your home, we can always pop back for a little bit to grab anything you need."
Keema responds, " Thats good to hear, I don't have any personal affects currently within Shiar that I miss, so on that front I'm fine, ontop of that I have sir Tarik running an errand for me so I don't think I'll be going back for some time".
Keema pauses after she finishes speaking, " Which is a shame , I did enjoy my job there, but combating these shards is far more important, I just wish I knew about them sooner.." Keema pauses again before quickly beginning a new, " I don't think I posited this question but how long have you been fighting these shards?".
"Offer stands regardless." The pair crossed the bridge to the keep. Strangely the drow looked like he had to give that last question some thought. Aniks scratched the back of his head before he spoke. "Hard to say for certain, that number is going to be different for each of us. Technically it's been five years since Pharasma gave us that quest. For most of us personally...two? One of the shards stole three years from us, only felt like a day or two at the time."
Ironfalls' keep felt surprising to live in, from the carpets and banners to the slight piano music coming from a nearby room. A few people passed by holding books too wrapped up in their own business to notice Keema and Aniks. Disappearing somewhere into the keep, before Aniks shook his head.
"I could feel myself about to go on a tangent. It's an important question to ask Keema, but for tonight? Let's not dwell too long on the Shards. Even we champions need to rest and be people on occasion. All of us need to unwind after that..."
Keema lightly sighs and says, "You are right of course, apologies for not seeing that myself". Keema pauses for quite sometime as they walk down the halls of the keep before speaking a new and saying," Well, how about this question then... is there anything of note I should know about Ironfalls? considering I'm most likely going to be here for a while".
"No need apologize Captain... " His voice was quieter than it had been a moment ago as they walked through the stone halls. Aniks had put some thought into his next words, eyebrows furrowing slightly. "There will be time to think on them later but, thank you. I don't think any of us properly thanked you for what you helped us accomplish."
They hadn't gone straight to the rooms, Aniks had stopped by a few storage rooms. Plucking pillows, blankets, and a lantern. All tucked in his arms before the two reached the stairs. It was when Keema broke that silence on their ascent with her question that Aniks chuckled "That fountain we passed on the way into the keep is the town's center. The buildings around it are where you can find food, books, clothes, things like that. Farther out you get more houses. Liese's Tower is hard to miss, have any questions about magic I would go there. There are a few dragons around, haven't seen the crystal dragon in a bit."
The pair were passing doors. "Honestly if you need to find anything specifically and none of us are around. Go to the Silver Crown Inn, the people I hired are a pretty helpful bunch."
"I assume since you don't seem alarmed at mentioning them the dragons here aren't a threat yes?" Keema says with a slight be of concern in her voice.
“Well my daughter can be rather threatening when she tries to be. As threatening as wyrmling can be. For the most part yes, the few here are mostly children. Save for the Crystal Dragon. They tend to stay to their caves.”
Keema showing a bit of shock in her eyes at the frist statment says "Apologies , but did you say you have a dragon as a daughter?, how on Ilstralar did that come about?".
Aniks looked at the doors as he passed. The ones closest to the doors all had little signs indicating if it was open occupied. The drow made no attempt to had the grin when he was the look on Keema’s face. “Yes, we found Avariel’s egg in a dungeon. She only hatched a few months ago. You’ll probably meet her soon.”
"Can't say I've ever met a dragon before so that'll be interesting..."
"Not many dragons in Shiar? Ah, here we go!" Aniks had finally found a room without a person who had claimed it. Disappearing inside to place down the bundle he had in his arms.
It was bigger than a typical inn room but not by much. The walls were made of the same stone as the keep. Furnished with the essentials, a bed with thin sheets, a writing desk, a nightstand, and drawers. The dark elf quickly placed the lantern on the nightstand, tossing the blankets and pillows on the bed.
Snap! A bright spark flew from Aniks fingertips and into the lantern. Brightening the room before he had to manually lower the flame. Finally turning to Keema. "We can probably find a small stove heater. Keeps not drafty after we fixed it up, but you can occasionally feel the winter outside if there is a blizzard. "
Keema looks at the lantern and says, " I suppose I'll have to get used to that for the time being.. I never actually seen or been in snow before so this weather is new to me".
Keema pauses thinking thoughtfully on what to say next, before speaking and saying, " Thank you for leading me here, I hopefully won't be too long, like I said I just need a moment of privacy to collect my thoughts".
Before Aniks went to the door, he opened the top draw on the nightstand. Producing a simple metal key between his finger tips. "We'll probably have to get you some winter clothes tomorrow morning, till then..."
The drow made some motion with his hand and spoke some arcane words. They mostly sounded like none sense but magical none sense all the same. The feeling of magic didn't wash over Keema till he placed the key in her palm. "That should keep the cold off you for a day, we'll see about a heater tomorrow. Rooms yours now, take as much time as you need. If you want to find us, or need anything else, just write."
Aniks offered her a small earnest smile before walking past the Captain, closing the door behind him.
